This charming signed Farnum ship and lighthouse motif Nantucket style rattan basket purse is modeled after 19th century baskets made by lightship sailors who were often based on and around the island of Nantucket, located off the coast of Massachusetts.
The hand crafted bag has a deep rectangular form resembling a creel fishing basket with a lid that is attached to the base by leather strip hinges at the back. The front of the body of the purse has a faux ivory “ivoryite” toggle clasp closure. There is a corresponding leather loop bound with rattan attached to the front of the lid which fits over the toggle.
